Marine mixing might kill malaria

The University of South Florida will take its anti-malarial screening techniques, mix them with marine microbes from the Magellan BioScience Group, and hopefully create an anti-malaria drug to combat an African public health threat.
With a grant from the National Institute for Health and matched funds from the Florida High Tech Corridor, the team will mix chemicals with Magellan’s collection of marine microorganisms to combat a disease that is already resistant to several drugs.
Malaria, a disease transmitted by mosquitoes in tropical areas, kills more than 2 million African children a year.
